Postscripts on the SC summit

First day
-Sir Teodoro spoke about media killings. Presentation was great although the Inquirer report that came out the following day had errors. Funny that I even actually gave that writer a copy of sir’s actual presentation

-I saw former Senator Jovito Salonga, a refugee from a period in our history where senators actually were brilliant. Tangina. Nakita ko si Salonga, haha. Sayang sana may kamera akong dala, tsk. How could you just not admire a person like him. And even until now! He still finds time to be involved. Courtesy of wikipedia, here is how Senator Joker Arroyo describes him:

“Some people make history, others write it. But there is a rare handful who, in writing—and in speaking—make history. These are the ones who illuminate the issues, and in so doing move men to answer them with noble actions… In our country there was Claro M. Recto. But if you consider the wealth of historical events surrounding a particular personality who shaped and even generated these events by his words, Jovito Salonga stands virtually alone.”

– Raul Gonzalez was again his alien self, talking gibberish saying that people have no right criticizing him for he was a staunch human rights defender during the Marcos regime, and that the DOJ could not be blamed for its shortcomings since it is operating on a shoestring budget-two points I think could have summed up his entire 15-minute speech because for most of the time, he was just talking stuff. Stuff which made most of the audience look at him like he had a second nose growing out of his forehead. A splash of non-sequiturs, and a whole dash of nonsense.

-Esperon and Calderon again trumpeted their assertion that the military, or the administration, has no policy neutralizing militants, and that most of the killings are internal purges within the communists, hay talaga. Calderon’s presentation though was quite more bearable as he presented the PNP’s various efforts in confronting the problem of extra-judicial killings and enforced disappearances. Esperon though for the most part just engaged in chest-thumping and a whole lot of complaining. He complained that most fact-finding missions just turn out to be fingerpointing (But isn’t that the point of fact-finding missions, to actually find and point us to the root of the problem.

“LET ME EMPHASIZE THAT WE DO NOT ARBITRARILY LABEL GROUPS AS MEMBERS OF THE CPP-NPA-NDF. WE BASE OUR CLAIMS ON EVIDENCE OF FACT. IN TRUTH, THE FOUNDER OF THE COMMUNIST INSURGENCY IDENTIFIED THEM FOR US.”

THAT IS THE FACT!!!”

Oo, naka upper-case talaga yung copy nung speech niya at tatlo talaga yung exclamation marks dun sa that is the fact. Totoo. Pramis. That is the fact.

Galing. Eto excerpt

“They who seek to remain in the safety of the sidelines when human rights are under assault shall be condemned by history into irrelevance.”

O di ba. Passion talaga kung passion.

-Last but not the least, nakita ko si Marieton.:) Wohoo! Hahahaha. Tae. Marieton. Shet. Hehe. Okay, tama na.

Second day
-Medyo madugo. Haha. May pagka nose bleed moment talaga.

-Speaking of Kidlat Tahimik, nagpapicture pala ako kasama siya. Tas mayroon daw siyang maliit na org, basta something to do with taking stock of the time we spend on television, parang ganun. Interestingly, dun sa breakout group na pinuntahan ko, nagsalita siya tungkol sa how television/movies reinforces the culture of violence among viewers.

-Putek. Taenang yan. Environmentalist ata kasi si ungas. Tangina, sobrang lapit talaga. As in, sobrang nakita ko na yung mga himulmol nung tuchang sa ilong niya. At naamoy ko yun a few inches away. Takte yan, sobrang nadisorient talaga ako. Parang bigla kong nakalimutan yung pangalan ko pagkatapos kong maamoy. Parang bulok na paksiw na may kasamang bagoong na ewan. Yung parang pag naamoy mo yun, bigla mong kukwestiyunin kung totoo bang may Diyos. Hayup yan. Ambagsik talaga.

-Siyempre man of the hour pa rin si Puno. Walang kapantay yung passion niya dun sa ginagawa niya. Galing. Kakainspire.

“But over and above, this prodigious inputs, I like to believe that this Summit has demonstrated that Filipinos can be one and that therefore there is no reason to abandon hope in the Filipino. Henceforth, if I may borrow the words of Ed Garcia, let us rather engage in a conspiracy of hope, hope for peace.”
