April 17, 2008

Nominations for the 2008 Jaime V. Ongpin Awards for Excellence in Journalism (JVOAEJ) for works published in print in 2007 will be accepted until Friday, April 25, the Center for Media Freedom and Responsibility (CMFR) announced yesterday. CMFR serves as the secretariat of the 19-year-old Awards.

CMFR conducts an independent scan of Manila-based publications and the nomination process is not a requirement for consideration.

The JVOAEJ accepts investigative and explanatory articles by individual professional journalists or teams of journalists that have appeared in a Philippine newspaper, magazine or other print medium.

The best articles are recognized with plaques and cash prizes. In addition, the Canadian and Australian Embassies will also award the Marshall McLuhan prize and the Australian Ambassador’s Award, respectively, to two of the awardees.

Nomination forms may be downloaded from the CMFR website (www.cmfr-phil.org) or may be obtained from the CMFR office. Completed nomination forms together with copies of the nominated article/s should be sent to
